Columbia model 49 we recently sold
This bike is roughly from 1898-1899. it has the wrong handlebars and also would not have had the front brake. It originally would have had drop bars (racing) and wold not need the front brake because it has a fixed cog rear wheel. The customer specified the upright bars and brake and we we able to oblige him. Curtis actually had to fabricate the "knuckle" on the brake rod (see photo). The bike has really nice Rollfast tires and wooden rims. Original paint and head badge. Saddle is also wrong. Also of note are the early straight pull hubs / spokes. Very cool bike. Enjoy the photos.
