Friend of the shop's recent find 1962 Schwinn Paramount

     This bike belongs to a friend of the shop / long time client. He brought it by to show us. It is a 1962 Schwinn Paramount P-12, which was the road racing model. The bike is in as found condition. It has the original lug lining and the super cool "Disney font" downtube decals. Original paint as well. Notable features are the MAFAC TOP 63 brakes, and the first generation Campagnolo front derailleur. This bike also has the mostly complete Campagnolo Record upgrade  options. This crank set was only available for about 4 years at this point. Enjoy the photos!

This auction features rare and one of a kind items that Via Bicycle has acquired since we started business in 1982. We have bought out the contents of many bicycle shops and personal collections over the years. There will be some complete bicycles, parts, tools, and related ephemera. We are happy to offer for sale at auction some of our extensive and comprehensive collection.

Some of the bikes offered for sale will include a 1940’s Schwinn Paramount tourist model, an early 1980’s Colnago Super road bicycle, an exceptional early 1960’s Raleigh blue Streak model road bicycle, a 1970’s Francesco Cuevas ladies frame bicycle, complete with full Campagnolo Nuovo record component group, an exceptional 1950’s Schwinn Town & Country tandem bicycle with original paint and decals, and some turn of the 20th century items.

Some of the tools offered will include a semi complete Campagnolo tool kit with the original wooden case, professional quality Park truing stand, an original 1940’s -50’s Schwinn parts cabinet,  and many other tools no longer available. We will also be offering a lot of cycling ephemera spanning several decades, both local and international items. Some key items will include a large original 1940’s framed Raleigh poster, a beautiful warm up / track suit that belonged to Jerry Casale, who started Hill Cycle in 1929, other framed and unframed cycling related posters and prints, magazine collections, service manuals long out of print, and also vintage cycling jerseys both wool and acrylic spanning multiple eras.

There will also be some rare and vintage bicycle components including wheel sets, both road and pista made by Campagnolo and Phil Wood, touring bags made by Brooks, Carradice, and T.A. Specialites.

1954 Schwinn Panther we recently sold

     This is a really clean 1954 Schwinn Panther we recently sold. All original paint, tires, racks, tank, and saddle. Stunning radiant Coppertone color. Not a scratch on it! The bike looks as if it was purchased, rode around the block and hung up in the garage never to be touched again. This is a rare time capsule piece. Enjoy the photos.

Trexlertown firehouse swap meet Sunday October 4th 2015

     The annual swap meets in Trexlertown, PA. happened over this past weekend, Oct 2-4th. The swap on Saturday was inside the Lehigh Valley velodrome in Trexlertown, PA. The weather was miserable. Cold and rainy. We were there at 6:30 AM scouring the landscape for wheelin' and dealin'. The fall swap is generally the bigger one as shops are trying to get rid of stock they did not sell over the summer season as well as individual vendors cleaning out garages and basements. This year though the weather was a huge factor in limiting attendance. The infield was only half full of vandors and the riders pits were also not very full. Last year was much the same in terms of attendance and weather. A bit overall disappointing. We got a handful of good items, Sometimes poor weather works to your advantage as there is not so many people competing for stuff and vendors do not want to load the cold steel and waterlogged cardboard boxes back into their cars at the end of the day. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera so I have no pictures from that day. I did see some cool bikes though. an Aplehans track bike, a pair of Frejus road bikes, Nagasawa track, and Yamaguchi track, as well as many others!
     The swap next door at the firehouse ran from Friday through Sunday, and has been an annual event since about 1984. It used to be held in a close by town called Macungie. It is mostly antique bike stuff including muscle bikes and balloon tire machines as well as some lightweight stuff. You never know what will show up! Again, vendor turnout was low because of the weather. Two days of rain made the grass field a soggy mess. We were there again at 6;30 AM and got a bunch of bikes and some small parts. I remembered my camera this time! So all the below photos are from the Sunday swap at the firehouse.

 Schwinn Paramount tandem, very clean.

 This bike is a one off made as a tribute to the French company aluminum bikes (see poster below). The owner spent  a whole year machining and polishing parts to assemble this amazing tribute! the only vintage parts are the rims (also purchased at this swap a year ago, the chain, and the saddle, which is a ladies model and will be replaced with a mens model. Lots of attention to detail all over this thing. A true labor of love!
