Trexlertown spring 2015 swap meet report part 2

     Here is the second batch of photos I took from the swap at the firehouse next door to the Lehigh Valley  Velodrome (T-Town). This show happened May 1st-3rd and is the second year it has been a three day event. It is mostly antique bike stuff: balloon tire bikes, muscle bikes, some lightweight stuff, etc. You never know what will show up though. Attendance was a bit thin both for vendors and buyers. In previous years the field was packed. Not this year though. Again, we got a couple things for the shop and a few bikes, mostly bread and butter type stuff. There were some cool things on display and tucked away though from the previous day. Enjoy!

 Raleigh that was recently sold at the Copake auction a few weeks ago all cleaned up and looking great!

 Home spun rear derailleur on the Raleigh consisting of an early Gran sport upper pivot with spring and barrel adjuster, Nuovo Record parrellogram and cage, and different lower pivot bolt, very cool! The current owner said the bike had all types of "tinkerer" touches.

Early Stayer - Motor pace frame for sale

 A beautifully built stayer bicycle frame. Sadly missing the fork. The lugs are exquisitely thinned on this unknown marque, presumably 1930s- maybe 1940s. It has a reinforced headtube, and requires a fork that accepts a 24" front wheel. The rear wheel is normal 700c/sewup. Floating race headset cups. English thread bottom bracket shell. The driveside chain stay is indented to accept a large chainring, standard on stayer bikes.

Saddle supports

Stayer, or motor-pace, bicycles have some specific parts from the custom geometry to allow a smaller front wheel and reverse rake fork to the large front chainring to provide the gearing to race closely behind a motorcycle. Another addition is the saddle support. Affixed to the top tube and then to the nose of the saddle, it offered support to ensure the saddle did not shift an any direction, especially then the bicycle encountered some steep banks at some velodromes.

Below is a beautiful unrestored early 1930s Malvern Star Stayer bike from my friend's blog. We sold it a couple years ago.  I highly recommend following it if you like old track bikes, and stayers. -

Here are for different saddle supports. The two bottom examples are manufactured by Cyclo(UK) from the 1940s-1950s. I am unaware who made the other two. They are not for sale.
