For Sale: Kennedy reproduction high wheel bike 1970's

     Today I feature this really cool Kennedy reproduction high wheeler from the 1970's. The front wheel is 52" and would be suited to some one about 5' 6"- 5' 8". This bike was made by the Lowell Kennedy Company in Defiance, Ohio in the mid 70's. It features tangent spokes, adjustable crank length, and original Kennedy seat, which is an indication that the bike has had an easy life. It also features a trouser guard and adjustable mounting step. The tires are a bit dry, but in good shape with plenty of miles left. This bike is ready to ride!

1896 Cycler’s Guide and Road Book of California. It has great advertisements, and I can only imagine what the roads labelled 'poor' condition were like, as even the best roads at that time were not paved. The roads of the late 19th Century were gravel or dirt roads.

“I often hear now-a-days, the automobile instigated good roads; that the automobile is the parent of good roads. Well, the truth is, the bicycle is the father of the good roads movement in this country.” -Horatio Earle, founder of American Road and Transportation Builders Association and  a former chief consul of the League of American Wheelmen. Earle became known as “the father of good roads” for his work on America’s highways, work he started when he was a cyclist.

Copake auction bike ride

First time the Copake Auction decided to hold a bike ride after the annual swap meet was better attended than anyone would have expected. The Wheelmen took part leading to quite a display of early bicycles. I really hope this becomes an annual event as it is an excellent chance to see what some collectors regard as coveted museum pieces being used for what they are, machines.

Copake auction catalog is now online

The annual Copake Auctions bicycle catalog is now visible online for your perusing. It is the premier bicycle auction in the USA, and brings collectors to the small town in upstate New York every spring to it's swap meet and auction of bicycles and bicycle ephemera.
It's emphasis is on older bikes, such as highwheelers, pneumatic safeties and other Wheelman related bikes, but they do not have a prejudice- all types of bikes go through the auction, there is always a bunch of rare balloon tire bikes and even some lightweights including a nice Alex Singer a couple years ago.
