Down-tube shifter braze-on. =) This feature seems like an excessive detail when it is so easy to just drill a hole and mount the shift handles. Any idea why he does it this way?

I think we deduced it was a tab for a drum brake as the opening is too small for an axle. it would be overkill as an aero shifter boss, and his work suggest that he would not use something so chunky there.

good guess though.
