Pretty interesting Blog, at Velo Cult, something I would like to do, if I did more recreational traveling. Nice and laidback with cool pictures and stories. I like the Chris King bicycle and the trip to Boulder.

BIKE THE STRIKE Commuters Can Bike During a SEPTA Strike PHILADELPHIA - November 3, 2009 - The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia urges SEPTA travelers to bike instead of driving. Commuters who bike will win out over those stuck in traffic jams of epic proportions."Avoid the crush and bike the strike," says Alex Doty, Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. "Bike the Strike to save time, money and help shrink your waistline. Plus, I guarantee you will have more fun than anyone trying to drive during the strike." In cooperation with Philadelphia's Office of Transportation and Utilities, the Bicycle Coalition has established a Bike the Strike station at City Hall (Dillworth Plaza). The station has bike parking corrals, free coffee, bike maps and Bicycle Ambassadors on hand to give tips on bike commuting and personalized route planning. Keeping safe while bicycling is critical. "Bicycles are considered vehicles, so we also urge all bicyclists to obey the rules of the road," said Education Director Breen Goodwin. "It's important for all bicyclists to be civil, courteous and comply with traffic laws, such as walking their bikes on sidewalks and stopping at all signals, to ensure the everyone's safety." BIKE THE STRIKE Fastest Option For those who commute four miles or less, bicycling instead of driving will get you to your destination faster and will take no longer than using a bus or trolley. A Center City District study found that bicycling by following the rules of the road is always faster than walking, driving or taking the bus across Center City during rush hour. Healthiest Option Commuting by bicycle for 15 minutes each way (about 2-3 miles) meets the Center for Disease Control's minimum recommendation of 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per day Regular physical activity may help reduce your risk for many diseases including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancers, and osteoporosis. It also helps to control weight; contributes to healthy bones, muscles, and joints; and reduces falls among older adults. Safety First Bicyclists are not pedestrians with two wheels. Bikes are vehicles and must comply with traffic laws just as motor vehicles do. Bicycles should stop at all red lights and walk their bikes on sidewalks. Orange Medici Track bicycle sold

Here is a beautiful orange Medici track bike. Perfect for the smaller rider. It was built with 650c wheels to accomadate a shorter inseam. 44cm seat tube, center to center, and a 51cm toptube. The bike has a 28" standover height. It have very little signs of use. it is beautiful with Campagnolo track dropouts.

Medici, given the same name of Italian aristocracy, were not produced in Italy but in sunny California. This bike is outfitted with Japanese components, like Sugino 75, 165 track cranks, Suntour double fixed hubs and Suntour headset. Fiamme Speedy tubular(glueon tire) rims. Not drilled for a brake. No pedals.

Mercian Vincitore

This is a beautiful bicycle owned by a friend of mine and a customer of the shop. It is a mid 1970s Mercian Vincitore. The bicycle is outfitted with a variety of period parts, from Campagnolo Nuovo Record drivetrain, Dia compe brakes, newer Mavic rims. I love the paint applied to the cutouts in the Nuovo Record high flange hubs, it is a very nice subtle touch. I may 'borrow' this for one of my bicycles, I forgot how well that accents a bike.

The chrome headlugs are beautiful, they were not listed in the catalog I was able to find online at the Mercian website(I wonder if this bicycle had that specially ordered).I really love the chrome Cinelli fully sloping fork crown as well. It does have vertical Campagnolo rear dropouts that were not that well received, as they were thinner than typical high quality dropouts and would either require a shorter axle or the frame builder to braze a slotted washer on it to give it more material. I am not sure how I feel about the seatstay treatment, it looks a little crowded. The wraparound seatstays over the lug is a bit 'meaty,' maybe if the wraparound was more profiled, or filed down, it would look a little more tied together.

Finally sorting out a lot of stuff we have here! Well sorting might not be the word, moving stuff around. In doing so, I am finding some items for sale for the world.

First, a Cilo Racer Swiss road frameset. 60cm. Campagnolo dropouts, Bottom bracket. Reynolds 531 double butted. Weinmann brakes. just needs wheels and a drivetrain and you are ready to go. $225

Second, a 52cm Peugeot PX10 frameset. Stronglight BB and headset. Simplex dropouts. Reynolds 531 double butted. Mafac brakes with little TA rack. $225

A cool picture with a Weco hub laced to an Ambrosio rim, set in contrast with 2 variations of Prior hubs. A nice NOS set of Prior hubs recently went for a chunk of change on Ebay.

The final picture is of a bunch of steel chainrings for cool old racing bicycles.
